The city of Bar, located in the southern part of Montenegro between the Adriatic Sea and Lake Skadar, has more than 270 sunny days a year, which make it one of the sunniest cities in Europe.

The city is the country’s main seaport, receiving cargo and passenger ferries. One part of it receives up to 300 tons of cargo daily from different countries, the second part transports passengers to different parts of Montenegro and abroad. There is also a yacht pier here.

The old town Bar, which is located 4km from the new Bar, is surrounded by lush orchards and olive groves and has an authentic atmosphere. Here you can drink coffee in one of the cafes on the main street or visit the Old Bar market, where locals dressed in national costumes offer traditional Montenegrin goods to passing tourists.

Old Bar in Montenegro is a historical fortified city located at the foot of Mount Rumia and is an impressive open-air museum. There is the majestic Clock Tower, built in 1752 near the Church of St. Catherine. Behind the fortress wall is an ancient aqueduct that worked effectively in the 15th and 16th centuries and is still preserved. The oldest tree in Europe grows here – the old olive, which is more than 2 thousand years old.

The new town is a popular tourist spot with beaches, hotels and entertainment for every taste. The new part of the city is perfectly landscaped for tourists, and its main attraction is the seafront. It is not wide, but quite long, and its entire length is marked by cypress and palm plantations. This is one of the favorite vacation spots for tourists and townspeople.

Another attraction on the seafront is the Palace of King Nikola, in past – the summer residence of the monarchy. There are Winter and Summer Palaces on its territory. Nowadays this is a museum with winter gardens and the so-called Flower House Knjaževa Bašta, which translates as “Prince’s Garden”, in which there is now a restaurant.

Several churches have been preserved on the territory of the city – the Church of St. Catherine (14th century), the Church of St. Veneranda (14th century), the Church of St. George (11th century) and the Church of St. Nicholas (13th century).

The list of existing attractions of the city can be added with the Cathedral Church of St. Jovan Vladimir, the Catholic Church of St. Apostle Peter and the Selimija Mosque.

The sights of Bar are not limited to architectural monuments. Here is Lake Skadar – the largest lake in the Balkans and the second largest in Europe with the Virpazar village, from which you can enjoy the beauty of the lake, choosing from a huge amount of watercraft – from small canoes, kayaks to speedboats. There are also the mountains which are ideal for active recreation.
